Weekend Sampler

So, the novel is set in 1982 in the Northern California beach/college/tourist town of San Tomas.  The college is UC San Tomas.  It's in the background (all the best characters are dropouts :-)), but here's a brief excerpt regarding the college radio station:

"Somebody had set up a stereo and the college radio station was playing at medium volume. Jimmy Cliff was jamming. The school tried to promote the station as K-UCST, but of course, the call letters were limited to KUCS. Thus, the dorms and many a bumper were littered with butchered stickers extolling the virtues of SUCK."
